Lunar New Year Celebration
Lanterns, double happiness & the year of the horse
Service Description
Welcome the Lunar New Year with art, light, and good fortune 🏮✨ Families are invited to create paper lanterns, make collage horses, and share wishes for happiness and joy in the year ahead. A joyful, all-ages workshop celebrating traditions—old and new—through creativity and connection. All materials provided. All are welcome. Cultural Context Lunar New Year is celebrated across many cultures and regions, including Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, and other East and Southeast Asian communities. While traditions vary, the holiday generally marks the beginning of the lunar calendar and is a time for renewal, family gatherings, honoring ancestors, and sharing wishes for health, happiness, and good fortune in the year ahead. Lanterns are often used during Lunar New Year celebrations as symbols of light, hope, and guidance, while the zodiac animal of the year offers a way to reflect on qualities such as strength, movement, and resilience. In this workshop, we draw inspiration from these traditions with respect and care, inviting families to learn, create, and reflect together while also making space for new traditions of their own. The program fee covers the cost of materials only. Please consider a donation in support of our mission and vision.
